PERSONAL FINANCE: Welcome to the new semester. We’ll start by discussing careers and then moving into career research for your virtual life.The schedule will be somewhat flexible this week for Personal Finance as we get our feet wet and go over the syllabus, expectations for the course and introductions.
Monday-Tuesday: Take the Myers-Briggs Online Test and then go to The Department of Labor Website to find your occupation. I am looking for (a) A printout of your type and (b) A printout of your occupation along with salary (c) Now answer and complete the assignment I have handed you on the first day. Don’t forget that I will check that you have purchased a binder the first class after Labor Day.

RESUME EXERCISES: The following link contains POWER WORDS that you will utilize when writing your resume. I expect to see them when describing the past jobs you have had. Remember that this is fictional, so make the content fit your circumstance.

Once you have finished your first draft of a resume, you are to submit them to me. Following this, I will mark up your draft with suggested changes and have you edit and resubmit. If you finish that, you are to read this article dealing with the necessity of cover letters and how to write one. I have supplied you with a template, you are to modify this and make it fit your dream job.

Term of the Day – financial health
A description of the state of a person or company’s finances. Someone with good financial health usually deals well with their finances, makes their payments on time, and knows how to manage their money. Someone in poor financial health usually owes a lot of money and isn’t making their payments on time.

Welcome to Computer Applications. We’ll spend the first day getting acquainted, going over expectations for the course, opportunities for personal studies and why this course will be important to you as you begin to enter the job market.
We will begin by working within The text titled Microsoft Office 2007 Fundamentals by Story and Walls. You are expected to read assigned readings and complete the accompanying projects on a daily and weekly basis. All text books are kept within the business lab. Each page in this text is marked with a two letter prefix. So, GS would be Getting Started, WD would be Microsoft Word, EX is Microsoft Excel and so on.
Monday-Please begin by reading GS4-GS 11. While reading, please work through Step by Step GS 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. If you finish this, you are to print GS 1.3 and hand it in. Then see me for questions and next step for today.
Tuesday-Begin GS assignments.
Wednesday-You should be moving on to GS12-GS19. Please work through Step by Step GS 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6. When finished, you will begin your First quiz. As this is your first week, this will be open book. Please turn in by end of class tomorrow.
Thursday-We move on to Microsoft Word Projects today. Please complete Word Assignments 1-5. These can be found by following the directions on the board. When finished, please print out each one and turn in to me.
Friday-Finishing first five Word Projects. After you have turned them in, Read WD4-WD11. Please complete WD1.1, WD 1.2 and WD 1.3. If you complete this, you are to print them and move on to Word Assignment 6 and turn it in.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT YOU SHOULD READ AND COMPLETE THE EXERCISES FROM THE TEXT BOOK! YOU WILL QUICKLY FALL BEHIND AND STRUGGLE IF YOU DO NOT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.
